Enlarged Erie Canal "Empire" Lock No. 29
-- Fort Hunter, N.Y.

Empire Lock No. 29 was a lift-lock on the Enlarged Erie Canal, built in 1841 with an eight foot lift, and replaced the adjacent original Clinton's Ditch Erie Canal Lock No. 20. The lock was enlarged (lengthened and deepened to nine feet) in 1885. It is located about a mile east of Schoharie Creek and the Schoharie Creek Aqueduct.
