Enlarged Erie Canal Lock 19 was built in 1842 to replace Clinton's Ditch Lock 32, a single chamber lock built at this site in 1822. (The 1825 canal locks were not numbered consecutively from East to West like the Enlarged Erie, they started numbering from the beginning in Rome.) The stonework was quarried in Rotterdam Junction. Located at the western end of the Vischer Ferry Nature and Historic Preserve, southeast of Vischer Ferry, the lock may be accessed from a parking area at the end of Ferry Drive (off of Riverview Road), via the Towpath Trail alongside the Mohawk River. In 1885, the north chamber of the double lock was lengthened on the eastern (foot) end. The lock had a 8.439 foot lift to the west.
