Enlarged Erie Canal Lock No. 54, Lock Berlin, N.Y.

Enlarged Erie Canal Lock No. 54 (also called the Berlin lock) is located in the Village of Lock Berlin, Town of Galen, Wayne County, N.Y., approximately 4 miles east of Lyons, N.Y. and 4 1/2 miles west of Clyde, N.Y. It is a double-chamber lock, with the north chamber double-length at the foot (eastern end). The lift was 7.70 feet to the west.

			The curved grooves in the photograph to the left were the location of the metal brackets which held the gate pivots.
